On Friday, July 24th 2020, we had the opportunity to carry out the 4th “Disability Awareness” training within the project “Your career is waiting – get ready!” which is coordinated by the non-profit organization EPIC and implemented with the support of the Erasmus+ program. The training took place at the premises of the association ´Partnerstvo Spiša´ in Spišská Nová Ves. The training consisted of 2 phases, theoretical and practical one. In the first phase, we went through the basic facts, statistics and definitions of disabilities. In the second phase, we presented the benefits of employing people with disabilities and also recommendations to organizations in the employment of disadvantaged people. Finally, there was a lived experience exchange from practice and stimulating discussion on the topic of disability awareness.
The “Disability Awareness training” based on know-how of EPIC ASSIST Brisbane, Australia, is offered by the non-profit organization EPIC for free and can be completed in the coming months in English or Slovak language. At the end of the training, participants receive a handbook with disability awareness facts, a presentation for additional information, as well as a Certificate of training completion.
